SUCCESS STORY
Naomi.
I built the business, and gave myself permission to enjoy my life
THE STARTING POINT
Where Naomi started.
Naomi came to us frustrated and miserable, and feeling like a disappointment. She was under significant stress, which was making existing medical conditions worse, and somewhere along the way she had picked up the belief that she did not really deserve to be happy.
One thing she said has stayed with us ever since. If she was fifty yards away from her laptop, she felt guilty.
She is an extremely intelligent, dedicated and conscientious woman with a PhD and a master’s degree, and she takes enormous pride in doing things properly. Despite all of it, she felt lost. Underneath everything were two much bigger questions: who am I, and what is stopping me?
WHAT WE DID
What we actually did.
Naomi was struggling with boreout which is a little different from burnout but still debilitating. It left her feeling stuck, unfulfilled and mentally drained, despite having plenty to do. She wasn't necessarily overworked; she just wasn't getting the stimulation or satisfaction she needed from life.
We worked with Naomi for about twelve months. Rather than handing her another business plan, we started with possibility. What would you love to be able to say about your life? What would you love to create?
Because she is naturally work-orientated, we explored what her ideal professional life would look like: the conversations she wanted to be having, and what running her own business would give her that her situation could not. But we were careful not to help her build another life dominated by work. Three words became important to her: freedom, peace, and joy.
So we did a lot of internal work on identity, confidence, self-worth and the beliefs keeping her stuck, and a lot of practical work on boundaries. She had spent much of her life feeling responsible for other people, and part of the work was recognising what was actually hers to carry.
Naomi completed all twelve modules and is a regular on the Wednesday coaching calls.
WHAT CHANGED
And this is where she is now.
She founded her own company. She built her own website. She won a contract worth more than she had ever previously earned. And then, in what was probably the bravest moment of the whole thing, she quit her job.
Today she is confident, decisive and far more in charge of her own life. But the part we love most is not the professional half. She has found joy again. She embraces silliness. She laughs.
She's rediscovered her love of motorsport and embraces every minute of it! From spending time at the racetracks to doing hot laps with some of her favourite riders, she's found that excitement, joy and thrill in life again.
She fiercely protects her morning walks because she knows that time matters. She can step away from her laptop without believing she has done something wrong, and she understands that rest is not something you earn.
