SUCCESS STORY

Joanne.

I gave myself permission to play again

THE STARTING POINT

Where Joanne started.

Joanne is a naturally joyful, energetic person full of ideas, and when she came to us she did not feel like that version of herself.

She had already been trying to work out what was happening physically, including tests, because she was tired and doing everything she could to get her energy back. But there was another side to it: she could not switch off. A lot of her decisions were coming from fear. Fear of falling behind, fear of things getting out of control, and the belief that if she was not working she was not doing enough.

One of the things she wanted was simply to pick up her guitar and play again. Even that came with guilt, because there was work to be done. It is something we see in a great many business owners, and for Joanne it meant the things that brought her joy had been pushed aside.

WHAT WE DID

What we actually did.

Most of the work was on the beliefs underneath that need to be constantly productive: what she had come to believe about work, about rest, and about what counted as doing enough.

What we wanted her to understand is that time away from work is not something to feel guilty about. It is part of having a life.

She worked through the relevant modules, and the ongoing group coaching has been a real part of her journey. She shows up to the weekly calls, contributes, reflects, and keeps doing the work.

WHAT CHANGED

And this is where she is now.

She picked the guitar back up. Then she started playing on stages. Then she recorded an album. The thing that had once represented time she should have spent working became part of her life again.

And it was not only the guitar. She has rediscovered her love of campervans and is doing one up with the aim of travelling round the UK in it. She has travelled with some of her clients through her work and had a blast doing it. She is decorating her home, working on her fitness, trying things, stepping outside her comfort zone.

She is also more decisive, and we see a very different Joanne when something difficult comes up. Instead of people pleasing or giving way, she finds her voice. She has navigated some hard situations, said what she needed, and put real boundaries in place without the guilt that would once have followed.
